Primary School Instrumental Lessons

The information below is for pupils attending Parent Billied (PB) Primary Schools.

To sign your child up for instrumental lessons, please speak to the instrumental teacher in your school.

Learning an instrument is a fantastic opportunity for your child to develop new skills, build confidence, express their creativity and discover a lifelong love of music.

Lesson Options and Prices

At Parent Billed primary schools, East Riding Music Service invoices parents and carers directly. Lessons are charged per term.

  • 20-minute individual lesson: £138 per term
  • 20-minute shared lesson: £69 per term

Swanland Primary School

The following additional lesson options are available at Swanland:

  • 40-minute individual lesson: £276 per term
  • 40-minute shared lesson: £138 per term

How Payment Works

East Riding Music Service operates a Pay & Play system for instrumental lessons, ensembles and instrument hire.

Once we receive your application:

  1. An invoice will be emailed to you through EEPOS.
  2. Lessons can begin once payment has been made.
  3. Your child’s instrumental teacher will be notified that they are ready to start.

Manage Everything Through EEPOS

Eepos is our online system, designed to make managing your child’s musical journey simple and convenient.

Through the EEPOS Parent Portal, you can:

  • View and pay invoices
  • Access lesson information and attendance
  • Contact your child’s instrumental teacher
  • Follow your child’s progress
  • Enrol in ensembles, workshops and musical activities
  • Manage payments for lessons, ensembles and instrument hire

Please note that the Parent Portal is currently available through a web browser only.

Instrument Hire

If a suitable Music Service instrument is available, it can be hired for £36.50 per term.

Pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals are exempt from this charge. Please make sure this is included on your application. Eligibility will be verified by the relevant local authority department.

Instrument availability cannot be guaranteed. If we do not have a suitable instrument, your child’s teacher can advise you about hiring or purchasing one elsewhere.

Looking After a Hired Instrument

Once an instrument has been issued, it becomes the responsibility of the hirer.

Please ensure that:

  • The instrument is insured, as Music Service pool instruments are not insured by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
  • It is handled carefully and protected from damage.
  • It is taken to school only when needed and brought home on the same day.
  • Any damage or faults are reported immediately to the instrumental teacher.
  • Electronic equipment is checked visually before use.

All electronic equipment is visually inspected and PAT tested before it is supplied. We recommend arranging an annual PAT test for electronic equipment. Please email eastriding.music@eastriding.gov.uk to arrange this.

You may be charged for damage to an instrument, excluding reasonable wear and tear.

Returning an Instrument

When an instrument is no longer required, please place a note inside the case containing:

  • Your child’s name
  • Your child’s school
  • The date the instrument was returned

Please also email eastriding.music@eastriding.gov.uk so that we can update our records and prevent further invoices.

If the instrument must be left at school, please ask the school to email us with the same information.

The full term’s hire fee applies regardless of when the instrument is returned. We therefore recommend returning it before the end of the term.
