Lessons in School

Before signing up for lessons, you must speak to your school teacher, or the head of music first. They will be able to tell you what instrumental lessons are available at your school.

Most schools make a charge for lessons and they will invoice you directly. Payment for lessons must be made to the school and not to the instrumental teacher.

You will also need to buy music and other related items as advised by the teacher

Lessons will take place during the normal school day. We recommend that Drum Kit students wear ear plugs during lessons.

Your support and encouragement will be essential to ensure that your child practises at home and makes good progress

An instrumental purchase scheme is available which enables you to purchase appropriate discounted instruments VAT free through the Music Service. If you would like to purchase your own instrument, please ask your child’s instrumental teacher for further details.

If there are any issues you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact the instrumental teacher via direct messages on the Eepos parent portal. You can also contact the instrumental teacher at school on the day when lessons take place or on the above contact details.

It is possible that your child may decide to discontinue lessons, or the teacher may advise you that your child is not suited to the instrument or is making insufficient progress. Lessons should always be terminated in writing giving one term's notice to schools.music@eastriding.gov.uk giving your child's full name, school and instrument.

Online Lessons

We do not expect to need to deliver online lessons again, however, should the need arise, please read and agree to the following to ensure a smooth transition:

We have developed a way so that music tuition can continue throughout the Covid-19 pandemic by using Microsoft Teams (MS Teams) to deliver music tuition online. This tool enables pupils to log in and have their music tuition with their teacher via a video link and these sessions will be recorded. Before we can enable you to join the online music tuitions, we are required to obtain your/parents/carers consent.

I understand that

You will always use the recording in line with the UK Data Protection laws.
The recordings will only ever be used for the purpose of the tuition.
The recording will be stored securely by the Council for 20 days unless there’s a reason identified for it to be stored longer.
I have a number of rights in relation to how you use my recording.
I can withdraw my consent at any time by notifying the teacher, if I change my mind and all recordings will be securely deleted at this point.

How we use your information (Data Protection)

We collect, use and store personal information (in line with the Data Protection Act):

for the reason you have given it and where you have granted us permission
to deliver and improve our services
to prevent and/or detect crime and to carry out enforcement action (where required)
to check your details are correct across our services
identify other services that may benefit you

I confirm that I undertake responsibility for the instrument and acknowledge that I will be expected to pay for any damage caused (excluding fair wear and tear)
I have read the attached student guideline and agree to follow this guidance/have discussed this guidance with the child.
I am happy that the lessons will be recorded and stored securely by the Council.
