Music for Wellbeing

‘I was intrigued by the Music for Wellbeing and decided to trial it for a year to see whether it could also help to support our children as they returned to school, but not as they knew it. Each class has had 5-6 sessions over the year.

I can honestly say that the experience has been fabulous. The children are active, engaged, have fun and leave school at the end of the day on a high. The impact is that alongside our PSHE program, the sessions have helped children to regulate more and develop better resilience. We have been so impressed by the results - at the end of each unit, the children perform what they have learned - that we have decided to continue with M4W next year. I have also arranged to roll it out in my other school from September. I cannot thank Emma and her team enough.’ Headteacher, Cowick Primary School

Led by our trained team, these sessions are devised to support the NHS campaign - 5 steps to mental wellbeing.

The 5 steps are:

- connect with people – interactive music making

 - be physically active – movement and musical stimuli

 - learn new skills – musical instruments

 - give to others – perform and compose

 - mindfulness – listening and reflecting

Through musical activities, singing, movement, listening and performing, all pupils will be able to access practical and fun musical activities to support their mental wellbeing. Activities ensure that all pupils feel part of and are actively involved in sessions.

Music is an ideal way to develop pupil’s cultural capital, as they learn new skills and realise talents, develop character and build resilience.

The sessions can be delivered to whole classes or small targeted groups to develop confidence, strengthen friendship groups etc.
